Tennessee trooper fired for brutality

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Tennessee state trooper has been fired for brutality, gross misconduct and conduct unbecoming a state employee during a traffic stop last summer.

Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons and Tennessee Highway Patrol Col. Tracy Trott said in a news release Monday that Tommie Boleyn was dismissed after an internal investigation into an incident on Aug. 31 in Shelbyville during a DUI stop.

A man identifying himself as Boleyn answering a phone listed in his name declined to comment Monday afternoon and asked a reporter not to call back. The 48-year-old Boleyn has been with the agency for about 12 years in two different terms.

The release said the investigation determined Boleyn didn't follow procedures and engaged in two physical altercations with the suspect.
