CHATTANOOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Thieves have stolen the tin roof from a McMinn County home.
WRCB-TV in Chattanooga reported Jerry Simpson uses the rural home as a getaway since his father, who lived there, died several months ago. Simpson said thieves had broken in before, but on a recent visit, he found much of the metal roof missing.
McMinn County Chief Deputy Matt Blair said the thieves might get caught yet. Blair said it would be hard for a scrap yard operator to not know a truckload of tin roof had been stolen somewhere. He said local scrap dealers have tipped deputies before when they suspect someone is trying to sell them stolen metal.
Simpson said he might repair the house and move into it. There was no insurance coverage.
