Top education official to speak at conference

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A special adviser to the U.S. education secretary is scheduled to speak in Nashville on Tuesday.

Greg Darnieder is expected to address the National College Access Network's conference at the Opryland Hotel.

Darnieder is a special adviser on the College Access Initiative. He will provide a federal policy update and discuss the administration's higher education goals and plans for the coming year.

Started in 1995, NCAN seeks to help underrepresented middle and high school students get a postsecondary education.

The network includes hundreds of members from the education, nonprofit, government, civic and private sectors.
