NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A White House official is to meet Tuesday in Nashville with American Indians.
William Mendoza, executive director of the White House Initiative on American Natives and Alaska Natives, will consult with tribal leaders on education matters.
The meeting is an outgrowth of President Barack Obama's 2009 executive order directing agencies to consult with Indian tribes on government-to-government relations and strengthen support for tribal communities.
Mendoza is scheduled to discuss plans involving the U.S. departments of education and interior to expand educational opportunities for American Indians.
