Troopers will be out in force this weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- State troopers will be working around the clock for drunken driving enforcement during the St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Fifty sobriety and driver license checkpoints are planned across the state Saturday and Sunday. The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be doing bar checks and have saturation patrols, the THP said in a news release.

Last year, the THP made 18 impaired driving arrests statewide during the St. Patrick's Day enforcement.

So far this year, state troopers have made 1,106 arrests for drunken driving, up more than 47 percent over a year ago.
