CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A tractor trailer driver who took his rig up a closed street where the trucks are not allowed ended up spilling 30,000 pounds of mulch onto the roadway.
A sign at the base of the hill warns semi-truck drivers not to enter Hamilton County's W road and another says the roadway is closed in 2.3 miles. James Bankhead told WDEF-TV "I saw the sign down there but the GPS kept taking me up that way and I was trying to get to my destination."
He managed to turn his truck around when he hit the closure, but on a sharp downhill curve the trailer turned over.
It took crews several hours to remove the mulch and trailer.
Bankhead was cited for failure to obey traffic control signs.
