U. of nashville alum killed at Buffalo party

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Police have released the name of the former college basketball player who was fatally shot at a house party in Buffalo last weekend.

Authorities say Samantha Cothran was shot early Sunday morning outside a home where a party was being held. She had turned 23 on Friday.

Relatives tell The Buffalo News that she had gone outside to get some air when the gunfire erupted at the party being held for a friend who had just graduated from college.

A man in his 20s was seriously wounded but is expected to recover. Police say they've made no arrests in the shooting.

Cothran attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., on a basketball scholarship and graduated in May 2011.
