SCOTT COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Scott County has the highest unemployment in the state. The tough times are forcing some to become roadside salesmen.
Jesse Roden will do whatever it takes to make ends meet. Including setting up a roadside yard sale just outside Huntsville.
"We probably make about $100 a day on good days. On bad days probably about $25-$30," said Roden.
He's not alone. Meet Steve Musselman, affectionately known as "The Sock Man." "It helps me pay the bills and survive."
Mussleman and Roden both agree doing this beats having no money at all. Roden even has dreams of going to college.
"So you want to do better for yourself," I asked Roden. "Yes, I do."
But the deck in Scott County is stacked against the 18-year-old soon to be father. "All we really have here is Wal-Mart and McDonald's. Other than that, it's just hard to find a job," said Roden.
"You have to find something to do to help you, the way things are in America, especially here in Scott County," said Musselman.
