CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Volkswagen Chattanooga has been awarded a Gold 2012 Edison Green Award for environmental and sustainability achievements at its plant.
The Edison Awards are sponsored by Nielsen, Discovery Communications, Science Channel, USA Today, CSRware and applepeak. The awards are granted under the aegis of the Thomas A. Edison Papers at Rutgers University.
The plant recently received platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. According to a news release from VW, the facility is the first and only automotive manufacturing plant in the world to receive such certification.
The company has pledged to improve its worldwide environmental efficiency in automotive manufacturing by 25 percent until 2018.
