NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Former Vanderbilt basketball player Ashley Earley is returning to her alma mater as an assistant coach.
Vanderbilt announced Friday that Earley has joined Melanie Balcomb's staff. Her responsibilities will include instructing post players and recruiting.
Earley spent this past season as an assistant coach at Virginia.
Earley said in a university release that "blessed is the first word that comes to mind. As a former player, I am ecstatic and humbled to return home to Vanderbilt in a coaching capacity."
Earley played guard and forward for Vanderbilt from 2001-05. She was a first-team all-Southeastern Conference selection her senior year.
After playing professionally in Israel, Earley began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Alabama. She has since been an assistant at Tennessee Tech, Rhode Island, Marquette and Virginia.
