MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- A judge in Murfreesboro has awarded the victim of a road rage incident more than $1 million.

According to The Daily News Journal, the award Monday to Tony Lynch was one of the largest in recent times by Rutherford County Chancery Court.

The defendant in the lawsuit was Matt Garrett, who was convicted of reckless aggravated assault in a 2010 criminal trial and has served a sentence.

Attorneys Howard Wilson and Kris Oliver represented Lynch. Wilson said his client was permanently disabled and was left unable to drive, which is how he made his living.

Garrett had claimed he punched Lynch in self-defense, fearing Lynch had a gun.
