OAK GROVE, Ky (WTVF) -- An 11-year-old boy is recovering at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being struck by an Oak Grove police vehicle on Monday evening and the whole thing was caught on camera.
The accident happened on KY 911 at Tyler Street around 5 p.m.
Video from a nearby rental agency showed the officer driving by, then moments later 11-year-old Justin Robertson is seen flying across the road before being trapped underneath another car.
"It was bound to happen. We worry about the kids a lot because they're small and don't look both ways," said Stella Cannon who works near where the accident happened.
After being hit stunned bystanders ran over to the car Justin was trapped under and managed to lift the vehicle off of him and pull the boy to safety.
"It was just terrifying, terrifying," Cannon adds.
Kentucky State Police said Officer Clevin Robinson was on patrol when 11 year-old Justin Robertson ran into traffic and right in from of him. Officer Robinson was driving his Ford Explorer Police vehicle when Robertson was hit.
Officials believe Officer Robinson was going the speed limit and call the entire incident a "tragic accident."
