WPTY-TV chief meteorologist dies at age 38

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Memphis television station WPTY-TV has reported the death of its chief meteorologist, Mark Walden.

The station reported Walden was 38 years old and died of apparently natural causes at his home over the weekend.

The ABC-affiliated station said Walden had a passion for keeping viewers safe from violent weather and was equally committed to service through numerous charity organizations in Memphis.

Walden is survived by his wife, a stepdaughter and a son.

He joined WPTY-TV in 1999 after working as a meteorologist for WEHT-TV in Evansville, Ind. Walden earned a B.S. in meteorology from Florida State University in 1997.

Memorial services were pending.
