NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A weekend bridge repair project in Nashville will result in an interstate highway detour.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation will close a short section of I-40's westbound lanes at the east edge of Nashville's downtown district.
Drivers coming into the city from the east side can avoid the area entirely by looping around Nashville on Briley Parkway and picking up I-40 on the west side of town. Through traffic can also use state Route 840 around the southern fringe of the metro area.
Otherwise, westbound drivers on I-40 will be routed onto I-24 West and can interchange with I-65 just north of downtown and get back onto I-40.
The section at the east end of the loop will be closed from 5 a.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday.
