Young Memphis woman sentenced in killing of friend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A young Memphis woman has been given two years in prison in the shooting of a friend after a night of partying.

Renee Addison pleaded guilty to a reckless homicide charge on Thursday, agreeing not to seek judicial diversion in exchange for the minimum sentence, according to The Commercial Appeal.

Addison was 17 when she was charged in the killing of Sarah Galbraith, also 17, in August. Police said Addison and Galbraith had dated on and off for about five years. Addison had told police she was trying to unload a pistol when it accidentally fired, killing Galbraith, but she made no statement in court Thursday.

Addison must serve at least seven months of her sentence to be eligible for release.
