Zoning staff wants smaller Ryman billboard

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A zoning commission's staff in Nashville is recommending approval of expansion plans for the Ryman Auditorium with one alteration -- that a proposed digital billboard be downsized.

The Tennessean reports that Ryman Hospitality will have its expansion plan for the auditorium considered Wednesday at the Metro Historic Zoning Commission meeting.

The company wants to add a restaurant, new lobby and multimedia history tour, plus renovated box office, restrooms and concessions area. The project will cost about $14 million.

Historic Zoning Commission staff recently filed a review of the proposal and recommended approval as long as the proposed 236-square-foot electric sign is shrunk. The staff recommended downsizing the sign to 154 square feet.
