The Knoxville Fire Department responds to over 30,000 calls a year and they want to make sure that you're not the next call they go too.
Monday marks the beginning of fire prevention week across the nation and the Knoxville Fire Department gives you a few tips to follow.
Captain Darrell Whitaker, Fire and Explosion Investigator says that this week is one to go over fire protection in your house. For example, check your smoke alarms. Make sure the batteries are new and that it is working properly.
Captain Whitaker says you should also have a fire drill with your family to make them familiar with the process and sounds. He says the best time is to practice at night to make the drill seem more real.
