Big South Fork postpones well work, trail closures

ONEIDA, Tenn. (AP) -- The National Park Service has indefinitely postponed a temporary trail closure in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

The closure of the Big Island horse trails announced earlier this month were intended to protect visitors and workers as 14 orphaned wells on the property were plugged. However, recent weather conditions have caused the operation to be delayed. The park is postponing the trail closures until further notice.
