Pumpkins, hay rides, and a giant corn maze are just some of the fall activities at Oakes Farm in Corryton!
It has to be one of the best places in East Tennessee for families and children of all ages! I had the unique chance to get a little dirty and tap into my inner child during the work day!
David Black, General Manager of Oakes Farm says, "2010 marks our 10th season in business and what we do here is we have a corn maze and pumpkin patch."
"We have all sorts of kid activities that we incorporate and we do field trips which is what is going on today kids come from all over the place to learn about farming." says Black.
But it's not all fun and games at the farm; it's educational too! We met up with students from The Garden of Discovery Learning Center in East Knoxville who learned a little more about farming.
Principal Monica Smith-Albright says "We're out here to give our kids an educational opportunity to come out and see the Oakes Farm; to experience a pumpkin patch, hayrides and to see a different part of Knoxville that they're not use to seeing"
It's an experience and culture that surprisingly not many kids get to take advantage of so Principal Smith-Albright says "This is a cultural piece that teaches them about different things that they might not experience in their communities and their homes"
An experience that Oakes Farm hopes they will remember forever, says Black "As corny as it might sound to make memories because we truly feel like we are helping folks make memories"
The farm is open until October 29th with plans to stay open through the beginning of November in the future.
