Holston Middle School assessing damage

Holston Middle School students and teachers are home for the day, as janitors and staff work hard to clean up after the flooding.

Water rose 4-6 inches in the basement.

The school principal says two swollen creeks (during the height of the storm) outside the school are to blame for water gushing into the school.

Tom Brown school principal says they likely lost monitors and maybe other computer equipment that are base don the bottom floor.

The gymnasium floor and the rest of floor that is tile on the bottom level, are being assessed for damage.

Brown says they need to determine what is destroyed before they can decide what needs to be replaced.

Brown says they took appropriate measures, safety-wise by holding children inside on Monday until the water receded outside.

It was five o'clock in the afternoon when they were let go.

Students are expected back to go back to class tomorrow.
