New Orleans, LA (WVLT) -- It's a doggone good time for people and their pets in New Orleans.
Canines are celebrating a Mardi Gras extravaganza called the "Mystic Krewe of Barkus parade." A group of dogs sniffed their way through the parade route, some of them on homemade floats or strollers.
They crown a king and queen Barkus. In order to be in the running, the dog has to be a rescued or adopted pet. This year's King Barkus XVIX is Banjo, pride of Katherine and Tony Gelderman. Queen Barkus XVIX is Fergie, lovingly adored by her roomate Jacob Barclay.
All of the admission and participation fee proceeds benefit homeless animals.
