When you think of cancer you usually don't think of children. However, we're going to introduce you to a special little guy who has fought cancer for nearly his whole life.
Samuel Anderson is much any other 4 year old who loves the simple things in life including the ocean and swimming. He plays with cars, his siblings and as his parents say he's 4 years old going on 40.
However, Samuel is battling a rare form of cancer known as Neuroblastoma. His father, Roy Anderson says "It's a rare cancer that effects 700 children a year in America. We of course didn't believe it because we were in shock, I mean cancer doesn't happen to little children it happens to older people."
From shock to reality they started fighting this aggressive cancer.
"They started radiation they [doctors] gave him 10 grams of radiation in his stomach. It was 10 courses for 10 days skipping the weekends and every day at that point they [doctors] would tell us that he would probably not be here tomorrow." says Roy
Even though the future of their son looked grim they put their trust in the power of prayer. Samuel is still here today even with some recent set back but he has taught his family and community something special.
Roy says, "You're not guaranteed another breathe we all know that but when you have a sick child you realize that a little bit more."
There is one thing that keeps Samuel going; cards that arrive daily from people around the country. His mother Sylvia says, "He enjoys the cards you know looking at them just knowing that people are praying and care"
It's an unimaginable illness for any parent to go through but the Anderson's say they'll keep fighting. His father Roy says "He told his Mama back in April, Mama I might just go home and be with Jesus and she said not right now hunny. She said I want you here with me."
If you're interested in making Samuel smile you can send cards to him. Remember to send only happy cards not get well cards. He is a huge fan of Thomas the Tank Engine and Cars the Disney movie. So if you come across one of those cards-- grab it up!
His address is:
7033 Calvary Way
Corryton, TN 37721
Spread the word especially to your family and friends in other states. The Anderson's say that Samuel gets a kick out of seeing cards come in from different places around the country!
