SOMERSET, N.Y. (AP) -- A Tennessee family with four children has been rescued from the waters of Lake Ontario after their motorboat sank. There were no injuries.
The Buffalo News reports that a passenger was able to make a brief cellphone call at about 2:30 p.m. Monday to report that their 16-foot boat was taking on water. Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour says the cellphone helped officials narrow the boat's location.
Seven people were found floating in the water -- three adults and four school-age children -- all wearing life jackets. The boat was submerged.
Law enforcement officials, fire department crews and the U.S. Coast Guard participated in the rescue.
The family was not identified.
