Deer droppings make for fancy footwork at field

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- There's contention about a Capitol View Park field in Frankfort, where the deer and the soccer teams play.

A soccer mom from Berea said she was appalled to find the field littered with deer scat on Aug. 30.

In an e-mail to The State Journal, Robin Wilder said parents were gathering up the pellet-like feces and carrying if off the field so the teams could play a match.

Kentucky High School Athletic Commission member Roger Cook said any coach who thinks the field is unsafe should "walk off and not play" there. Cook said he only got one complaint and the commission discussed it.

Parks Director Steve Brooks said it's too expensive to tranquilize the deer and move them. He said eradicating them would be a public relations nightmare.
