Woman, 89, arrested for keeping kids' ball

BLUE ASH, Ohio (AP) -- An 89-year-old Ohio woman faces a charge of petty theft because neighborhood children say she refused to give back their football.

Edna Jester was placed under arrest last week and taken to the police station in the Cincinnati suburb of Blue Ash. Police say there had been an ongoing dispute over the errant football and a child's father called to report that Jester kept the ball after it landed in her yard.

Blue Ash Police Capt. James Schaffer says police warned Jester twice and finally arrested her after she refused to accept a citation. She must appear in mayor's court next month.

Jester said Monday she didn't have time to discuss the incident, saying she has received many phone calls about it.

UPDATE - According to WLWT-TV in Cincinnati, OH, the charges against the 89 year old woman who was arrested FOR THE TRIVIAL MISDEMEANOR OF FAILING TO RETURN HER NEIGHBORS BALL have been DISMISSED! It seems that Blue Ash Ohio City Prosecutor Mark Arnzen decided this poor old 89 year old lady lacked "sufficient culpability" to prosecute - YAH THINK!! Perhaps Mr. Arnzen could have figured this out BEFOREHAND!! But apparently it took a telephone call from noneother than DR. PHIL (I'm not joking) and a future episode of national exposure to convince Mr. Arzen to drop the charges. If I were Mr. Arzen, I think I would submit a LETTER OF APOLOGY to this lady. After all, Mr. Arzen is an elected official.

So, let me see if I understand our current legal system... A few years ago, a U.S. federal prosecutor arrested two of his own federal border agents, rather than the violent illegal immigrant, drug smuggler who attempted to kill these agents. These border agents remain in prison, while the drug dealer was set free, only to be arrested YET AGAIN. This is how our legal system sees fit to treat federal felonies. Now, state law enforcement has arrested an 89 YEAR OLD woman on a trivial misdemeanor, and taken her to jail. BRILLIANT!! I can just see Fred Thompson on a Law And Order episode dealing with these precise legal issues (no offense meant to Mr. Thompson). I am sure the rapist or drug dealer that will soon be released, so that we can find room in our prison system to house this 89 YEAR OLD DANGEROUS WOMAN will take great pride when committing their next violent crime. AMERICA HAS CLEARLY LOST ITS JUDICIAL MIND!!
