BEND, Ore. (AP) -- An Oregon man has taken his lawn chair where few have gone before, about 13,000 feet up and 200 miles toward Idaho.
Kent Couch says it took about 105 balloons to lift him that high. He was trying to fly from Bend, Oregon to the next state, but fell short of that lofty goal.
He's the latest American to try to repeat the 1982 stunt by Larry Walters, who flew his balloon-powered lounge three miles over Los Angeles.
The 47-year-old gas-station owner describes his flight as the closest he could get to the clouds on a beautiful summer day.
