Humans to be chess pieces in Jackson tourney

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- This won't be your usual chess tourney Friday at Jackson State Community College.

For the second straight year, human volunteers will be the pieces in the tourney and stand on a large chess board. Approximately 40 volunteers will be used for each of two 90-minute shifts. The school said costumes would be provided.

The free event is sponsored by the school chess club. It will be held in the quad near the student union building, with the moves beginning at 11 a.m.
