Suicide bomber hits party after release in Iraq

BAGHDAD (AP) -- Iraqi authorities say a suicide bomber has blown himself up in a house northeast of Baghdad, causing dozens of casualties among police and civilians.

An Iraqi security official says the explosion happened Monday in a house in Balad Ruz, 45 miles northeast of Baghdad.

The official said the bomber targeted the house of a former detainee who had been in a U.S.-run prison for a year and was released Monday. At the time of the explosion, relatives and friends were at a banquet celebrating the release.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media.
