WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House is calling today's deadly bombings outside the American embassy in Yemen a reminder of the danger from "violent extremists both at home and abroad."
A senior U.S. official says the bombings were carefully carried out with some attackers apparently dressed as soldiers. As many as five explosions hit the embassy, and Yemeni authorities who first responded were ambushed by snipers.
Ten people died in the attack. All American personnel at the embassy are safe and accounted for.
The White House is also offering condolences to the victims. A spokesman says the U.S. will continue to work with the Yemen government to increase counterterrorism activities and prevent more attacks.
