KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- The U.S. military says 43 militants are dead after a clash with U.S. and Afghan troops in southern Afghanistan.
The military says the troops called in airstrikes against a group of insurgents, after the troops were ambushed with sniper fire and rocket-propelled grenades.
No casualties are reported among the U.S. and Afghan troops. But a civilian working as a contractor for the U.S. military was wounded.
Southern Afghanistan is the center of the insurgency led by the Taliban.
