2 Austrian hostages freed after 8 months in Africa

VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- Austria's government says two Austrians kidnapped more than eight months ago while on holiday in Tunisia have been released.

Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik says Wolfgang Ebner and Andrea Kloiber were freed and are in the hands of the military in Mali. It was unclear what circumstances led to the pair's release on Friday.

An affiliate of the Islamic militant group al-Qaida claimed responsibility for abducting the pair in February.
