American jailed for fatal crash, after driving on wrong side

LONDON (AP) -- A British judge has sentenced an American man to 20 months in prison for causing a fatal car crash by driving on the wrong side of the road.

Nathan Doud had pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, after colliding head-on with another car in Leeds. The driver and two passengers in the oncoming car were killed.

A lawyer for the 26-year-old Ventura, California, man said Doud had limited experience driving in Britain and was inadvertently driving on the right side of the road, as in the U.S., rather than the left.

The judge also disqualified Doud from driving for two years.
