HONIARA, Solomon Islands (AP) - Officials say they expect the news to get worse as more bodies are recovered in the Solomon Islands, where huge waves churned by a massive earthquake wiped away entire villages.

Officials say at least 13 people are dead, others are missing, and the toll is expected to rise.

An official with the Solomons National Disaster Management office says numerous villages in the South Pacific nation's remote west reported that people had been swept away as waves plowed through their communities.

The reports are sketchy because communications have, in many cases, been reduced to scratchy two-way radios. Emergency officials say it's a struggle to reach outlying areas.
