Megasite in Haywood County changes name

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- The West Tennessee Megasite in Haywood County has changed its name to Memphis Regional Megasite in a move to align the industrial development site with its booming big city neighbor.

Haywood County Mayor Franklin Smith said in a statement obtained by The Commercial Appeal ( ) that Memphis is a globally recognized brand that will help them more efficiently market the assets of the site.

The 1,720-acre site in southwest Haywood County is certified through Tennessee Valley Authority's Megasite Certification Program as a potential site for a big manufacturer or other large industrial development.

The site is located along Interstate 40 and CSX Rail connects it to four other rail systems.
