KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Former Broncos linebacker Al Wilson didn't hold back expressing his happiness that Peyton Manning is headed to Denver.
"I love it. I love it," Wilson told Local 8 Sports. "I think it's a great move for him and a great move for the organization."
Wilson and Manning were teammates at Tennessee from 1995-97.
"From the collegiate days, I think everybody knows Peyton is one of the hardest working guys in the business and he's very focused and dedicated to his craft. I think he's become more of that as a professional."
"They (the Broncos) are getting a hell of a leader."
Wilson was drafted in the 1999 NFL draft and never got to play with former Denver quarterback John Elway, but the two do know each other. Elway is now the team's vice president of football operations.
Wilson believes having a former Super Bowl winning quarterback might have given the Broncos an edge in Manning's courtship.
"I don't think having John Elway hurts," Wilson said. "He's a quarterback. He understands Peyton's mentality. He understands his mindset. I believe, Peyton probably thinks John will give him everything possible on the offensive side to be successful."
Wilson feels the Broncos are getting a game changer. He pointed to the Colts' struggles last year as all the proof you need.
"They (the Colts) were pretty much the same team, and without Peyton they looked like a totally different ball club. And I think it's a tribute to him as a player as far as his preparation, and the way he approaches the game, and the respect the guys have for him, because those are the things that actually help you succeed at the next level."
The Broncos selected Wilson in the first round of the 1998 draft. Wilson played for Denver for eight seasons, making five Pro Bowls during that time.
