BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Tennessee senior Raven Chavanne has been named SEC Softball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Chavanne was outstanding at the plate for Tennessee (27-6, 6-3 SEC), which went a perfect 4-0 for the week with a Tuesday win over Murray State and a three-game sweep of No. 5/4 Texas A&M. She batted a team-high .750 (9-for-12) with five RBIs, one homer, one double, six runs, three walks and three stolen bases. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native had a 1.083 slugging percentage and a.800 on-base mark - both led the team.
Chavanne has been named SEC Player of the Week six times in her Tennessee career, the most in school history. She previously earned the honor once in 2010, twice in 2011 and twice in 2012. Along with one SEC Freshman of the Week pick back in 2010, Chavanne has seven career nods for weekly honors from the conference, which stands second in UT history only to Monica Abbott's 16 times as SEC Pitcher of the Week from 2004-2007.
Chavanne is the second Lady Vol to earn SEC Player of the Week accolades in 2013, joining Lauren Gibson, who was named SEC Co-Player of the Week on March 18.
She either scored or drove in 11 of UT's 28 runs on the week (39.3 percent of scoring). Chavanne scored the game-winning run against Murray State (first run of 7-0 win), hit the game-winning three-run homer against Texas A&M in the sixth on Friday and scored the game-winning run on Madison Shipman's walkoff RBI single to right to complete the sweep of Texas A&M on Sunday, which was also her birthday.
Chavanne tallied four consecutive multi-hit games this week, her longest streak of the season. On the season, she ranks second on the team with 15 multi-hit games. Chavanne tied her career high with three stolen bases vs. Murray State on March 19. Her three RBIs against Texas A&M on March 22 tied for her second-highest total of the season and her most since driving in three against NC State on Feb. 17. She currently ranks fourth in the SEC with a .442 season batting average, third with 46 hits and second with 25 stolen bases.
