Manning sounds off about Kiffin

LOS ANGELES (WVLT) -- One of Tennessee's most beloved sports figures sounded off about one of the Vols' most hated icons on the Dan Patrick show Tuesday.

Peyton Manning was asked what he thought about Lane Kiffin's departure from Tennessee to take the head coaching job at USC.

"The one thing where Tennessee as a whole group was kind of hurt, our pride was hurt, was that we didn't think that Tennessee was a transition job," Manning said.

"I always thought -- and the Big Orange Nation thought -- that Tennessee was a destination job. Unless you were fired or retired, that was the place to be."

Manning said he didn't have any personal issues with Kiffin and that he thought the young coach would do a good job at USC.
