KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- The NCAA is investigating the Tennessee basketball program, according to WVLT's media partner, GoVolsXtra.com. A news conference is planned for 3 p.m., and we'll have complete coverage on Volunteer TV News and VolunteerTV.com.
NCAA officials have spoken with head coach Bruce Pearl and associate head coach Tony Jones about the possibility that the Tennessee coaching staff exceeded the allowed amount of contact with recruits. Coaches are allowed to phone a prospect once a month through July 31 before a player's senior season, and then twice per week beginning Aug. 1 of a recruit's senior school year.
University officials say the school has not received a letter of inquiry from the NCAA and have no comment unless a letter were to come.
