COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Mackenzi Adams threw two touchdown passes and D.J. Moore had two key interceptions as Vanderbilt beat No. 6 South Carolina 17-6 Saturday, ending Spurrier's unblemished record against the school that began in 1987.
Vanderbilt took a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and held off Spurrier's club the rest of the way.
Vanderbilt's players rushed to the section of Commodore fans when the game ended, jumping and pumping their fists in celebration.
The Commodores hadn't beaten a team ranked as high as No. 6 since topping No. 6 LSU, 7-6, in 1937.
The Carolina loss means that if Florida loses to Kentucky, Tennessee still controls its own destiny in the SEC East race.
