MEMPHIS (WVLT) -- The state's top basketball recruit committed to Duke yesterday, choosing the Blue Devils over Tennessee, Virginia, and Memphis, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel, WVLT's media partner.
Elliot Williams, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from St. George's Preparatory School in Memphis, was a top recruiting priority for coach Bruce Pearl. Williams visited campus during the Georgia football weekend along with top recruits Renaldo Woolridge and Chris Singleton. Woolridge committed to Tennessee shortly after the trip, while Singleton is allegedly deciding soon between Florida State and Kentucky, per Rivals.com.
Williams would have been the third member of Pearl's 2008 recruiting class. The Vols have received commitments from Phillip Jurick, a 6-10 post player from Chattanooga, and Woolridge, a 6-8 forward from North Hollywood, Calif.
Tennessee opens play Friday with an exhibition game against California (PA). The regular season begins the following Friday with a home game against Temple.
