KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- The Farragut-Oak Ridge game was supposed to be a nailbiter, the kind that makes people remember November.
But Friday, at a stadium affectionately known as "The 'Ship," the Farragut Admirals took the wheel and cruised into championship waters, taking the Region 2-5A title with a 42-7 rout of homestanding Oak Ridge.
Andre Sterling rushed for 275 yards and three touchdowns in the first half to spur the blowout, then sat for most of the second half and watched the reserves tally minutes and rushing yards -- 406 in all.
Sterling's philosophy? Having an appetite for the end zone.
"When you see that goalpost, you've just gotta run to it, like it's a doughnut or something. You just have to run to it."
And he did. But Sterling says he'd rather win titles than individual trophies.
"Our team is way more important than just one person. I'm just one person, and I'd rather the whole team perform well than just me."
The Admirals will have a shot at team accolades, starting next week when they host round one of the playoffs. The Wildcats will get a shot at repeat victory, as they travel to J. Fred Johnson Stadium in Kingsport to take on Dobyns Bennett, a team they beat 14-7 earlier in the season.
