Knoxville (WVLT-TV), The TSSAA state high school football playoffs continue Friday November 23rd with quarterfinal round action. Standing as good a chance as any team to advance is Brad Taylor's Bearden Bulldogs, who enter Friday's game with only one loss. That loss came to arch rival Farragut earlier this season. That's been the one blemish a very close team would love avenge, although it goes much deeper than football for this pack of hungry Dogs. During the off season, this Bearden lost the coach who cared enough to take over a struggling program when nobody else wanted the job. Bill Wilson was an inspiration to these young men and his passing helped breathe life into a team ready to live by his example.
Part of the unity displayed by this close group takes place off the field each Thursday night as the Dawgs gather over at the house of senior quarterback Dawson Halliday for dinner after practice. Thanksgiving Thursday, 2007 was no exception as the bulldogs gathered for a little fellowship, fun as well as plenty of turkey and fixings. As they usually do, the players listened to the message put forth by Reverened Tommy Campbell from Central Baptist Church Bearden. Hosts, Ed and Janice Halliday had the usual 15 gallons of Gatorade and Iced Tea ready for the boys to consume.
This bunch came hungry and left even hungrier for a win Friday night.
Fellowship and football, certainly a winning recipe for any team!
