BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLT) -- Michigan athletic director Bill Martin has requested and received permission to contact LSU coach Les Miles regarding the Michigan head coaching vacancy, ESPN reported Wednesday night.
Miles and the Tigers are preparing to take on Tennessee in the SEC championship game Saturday. According to the ESPN.com article, the meeting between Michigan and Miles will not take place until after the SEC title game.
Miles played for Michigan during the Bo Shembechler era and later served as an assistant under the legendary Wolverines coach.
Until last week Miles' Tigers were gunning for a national championship berth, but a 50-48 triple-overtime loss to Arkansas derailed LSU's title hopes and possibly sped up the Michigan coaching search.
Miles has been asked numerous times about his interest in the Michigan job and has never denied that he is a candidate.
