UT Vol freshman football player arrested

Tennessee freshman tailback Daryl Vereen was arrested and charged with public intoxication on Sunday evening outside of Gibbs Hall, a source within UT’s football program told the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Director of public relations Tiffany Carpenter said UT was not yet ready to release any information on the transgression or a subsequent punishment.

“Coach (Phillip) Fulmer is aware of the situation,” Carpenter said. “He is on the road recruiting and would like to discuss the punishment with the young man before we release anything publicly.”

Vereen redshirted this season after signing with the Vols out of North Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, N.C.

Well What can you say, the UTPD is way more concerned about drinking than the real problem. Students at UT are receiving emails from the UTPD almost on a weekly bases(or more often as was last semester) about strong arm robery, attempted kidnaping, physical assalts etc. I wish that they would wory more about the dangerous problems rather than who is drinking on campus. Yea they get drunk, but at least they are not using guns and other things to inflict harm on others. The UTPD wants people to call for escorts at night or if you do not feel safe, well that is great unless you are on campus waiting outside by a blue phone for the escort. It takes at least 15min. for them to arive. It drives the students nuts when they are more concerned with drinking rather that actualy protecting the students who are realy being harmed. UTPD need to relize that while they think they are doing something great they are allowing our fellow students to be robed. So far no serious injuries have occured.
