KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- The Knoxville Police Department has completed it's review into the arrest of University of Tennessee starting lineman Anthony Parker, and charge will stand, according to KPD spokesperson Darrell DeBusk.
In a written statement faxed to the WVLT Newsroom, DeBusk says a district supervisor reviewed statements made to officers at the scene, statements from the officers, and a video and audiotape from the scene.
Based on that, according to DeBusk, evidence shows the officers acted appropriately and in accordance with the law.
The Knoxville News Sentinel first reported on it's website Monday afternoon that Police Chief Sterling Owen had "ordered a review" of the charge.
At the time, DeBusk told the newspaper that wasn't the case, saying "When someone calls, and they said they felt like something was handled improperly, then we're going to investigate. That's what we're supposed to do," according to the information from the article.
Parker, 21, was arrested by off-duty KPD Officer Sam Henard at the Sutters Mill Apartments in West Knoxville early in the morning on Saturday, January 26th.
According to the warrant, Henard observed Parker yelling and waving his arms in the air in the parking lot. Henard asked Parker to stop yelling and leave the property, but arrested him when the behavior continued, according to the warrant.
Parker is due in court on February 6th to answer to the disorderly conduct charge.
"Any citizen that fails to follow the direction of an officer is subject to arrest," DeBusk said in the written statement. "The actions of Mr. Parker and his failure to comply with the officers' demands is what resulted in his arrest.
