The Tennessee Smokies, the Class AA Southern League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, are proud to announce that The Sports Animal WNML 99.1 FM, 99.3 FM & 990 AM has renewed its contract for the 2008 season as the flagship station for the Smokies Radio Network.
“We are very happy to continue our affiliation with The Sports Animal and Citadel Broadcasting for the 2008 season”, said Smokies General Manager Brian Cox.
“Our fans can truly see the commitment to professional baseball in East Tennessee with this being our seventh year with Citadel, and the Cubs extending their player development agreement with the Smokies through the 2012 season.”
As the flagship station of the Tennessee Smokies, The Sports Animal will carry the primary portion of the 2008 games live. Radio broadcasts will also be available over the internet via The Sports Animal and MILB.com. Mick Gillispie will return as the voice of the Smokies for a second consecutive season.
In other Smokies news, the Chicago Cubs have released the minor league portion of the 2008 Spring Training schedule. The Double-A Smokies spring training team will begin play on Friday March 14th in Arizona through Sunday March 30th. The Smokies team will play against Double-A squads from the San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Milwaukee Brewers, and Oakland Athletics. The Cubs minor league spring training schedule also features games at the Triple-A and Single-A levels.
