Tennessee's Anthony Parker, a second-team All-America last year and a big reason the Vols led the SEC and nation with only four sacks allowed, has been included on the 2008 preliminary watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award.
Parked lived up to his billing last season as a preseason All-SEC by Sporting News. He started all 14 games at left guard en route to second-team All-America honors by the Associated Press. Tennessee's offensive front, anchored by Parker, allowed a quarterback sack every 134.5 pass plays last year while helping produce a 3,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and a 1,000-yard receiver.
The SEC boasts the most players on this year's watch list with eight, followed by the Big Ten, Big 12 and Mid-American with six.
Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen and those defensive players who line up within five yards of the football. The candidates earned a place on the preliminary watch list by earning All-American honors or by being named to their respective all-conference first team as selected by the conference's head coaches. The Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List will be updated prior to the start of the 2008 season in order to identify those players who have been selected as pre-season honors candidates.
