UT Basketball Vols Ramar Smith and Duke Crews leaving team

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Duke Crews and Ramar Smith have been removed from the UT Vols Men's basketball team.

UT Men's Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl made the announcement Friday evening in a press conference.

“I am disappointed to announce that neither Duke Crews nor Ramar Smith will be a part of the 2008-09 University of Tennessee basketball program,” Pearl said.
“Both were provided every opportunity to succeed here but have not met our expectations. With both Ramar and Duke, we came to the conclusion that it was in their best interest to transfer to another institution in order to continue their academic and basketball careers.”

WVLT's media partners, the Knoxville News-Sentinel, have confirmed through multiple sources that the dismissals were due to a combination of substance abuse violations and academic issues.

Like a lot of people, it appears that they were living in the moment and not looking out for their very promising futures. The basketball team and fans alike will miss their considerable talents and contributions to the Tennesse Men's Volunteer basketball team. Hopefully for both of them, they will see this as a wake-up call and get their goals and visions of their future back on track. Good luck young men and Duke ~~~> take extra care of your health.

Once again, here we have college athletes with the potential to to become future millionaires from their athletic ability alone and they throw it all away because of the stupidity of substance abuse! I just can't understand why!
