KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee sophomore infielder Will Maddox has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2013 Collegiate National Team training camp, USA Baseball announced on Wednesday.

The Gainesville, Ga., native becomes the 20th Tennessee player to be a part of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Former teammate Zack Godley was an alternate on the squad headed by UT head coach Dave Serrano last season, pitching in four games during the team’s initial tour throughout North Carolina.

“I feel extremely honored to have this opportunity,” Maddox said. “To be able to play with and test myself against some of the best players in the country while representing my country is a real privilege and has been a dream of mine since I was little. I saw how much Zack was able to benefit from the experience last year and hope I am able to do the same. I can’t wait to get started.”

Maddox has been a mainstay in the Tennessee lineup in his first two years at Rocky Top. In 2012, he started 54 games at second base and became just the third freshman to lead the Vols in hitting since 1980, batting .297 en route to SEC All-Freshman Team honors.

For his sophomore campaign, Maddox moved over to third base and hit at a .333 clip over 51 games while leading the squad with 69 hits, 42 runs scored, 207 at-bats and 22 stolen bases in just 27 attempts.

The 2013 Collegiate National Team will train at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., from June 21-July 2. The final 24-man roster will be announced prior to the team’s departure for a six-day tour through Japan, July 6-11.

The team will then return to the United States where it will play a number of summer collegiate league all-star teams throughout the Northeast, July 15-17, before closing out the summer with five games against the Cuban National Team, July 18-23.
