Birmingham -- Donnie Veal (1-4) was great tonight grabbing his first win of the season. He pitched seven shutout innings yielding only three hits and one walk. Veal struck out three and was dominate to pace the Smokies.
James Henderson pitched one scoreless inning of relief for the hold and Geoffrey Jones (3) snagged the save retiring the side in order in the ninth.
The games only run score in the seventh after Josh Kroeger and Jake Fox led off the frame with singles followed by a Matt Craig run scoring hit.
Jack Egbert (3-2) took the loss pitching six innings and giving up just the one run on six hits.
The Smokies will try and make it four of five Sunday afternoon at 2:05 CT. Sean Gallagher (2-2) will start for Tennessee while Birmingham will go with Wes Whisler (0-3).
